Know your choices
- Photobiomodulation or cold laser therapy- this is light therapy that works at a cellular level reducing inflammation and pain.
- Therapeutic ultrasound – sound therapy often used to increase the extensibility of soft tissue. Often used prior to manual therapy techniques.
- Neuromuscular electrical stimulation – NMES provides an electrical stimulus to muscles causing a contraction. This is often used following spinal surgery but may also be used in conjunction with exercises for improved strengthening.
Physical Treatments
- Underwater treadmill – provides buoyancy as well as resistance so can be beneficial for improved mobility and strength
- Manual therapy – includes massage, soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization, and osteopathic techniques
- Exercises – determined based on pet’s needs and may include platforms/steps, balance discs, and therapy peanuts
- Instruction in home exercises
